Day 7: Chuch and a morning walk through Munich!
Nicole and I woke up early, along with Kathy and Con in our group to attend mass at Saint Peter's Church, near Marienplatz. We had seen the church and were familiar with the short trip from the orientation walk we took with Colleen the day before. What an experience! Being Catholic, the masses are the same everywhere you go, other than the language change, it's no different in Germany! Well except, its all in German, they had a kneeling rail and no one was a tourist! This was an amazing hour!
After mass we strolled back to our hotel to meet up with the group for our walking tour of Munich. This is where we met our local guide, Kathleen. Our tour was very interesting as we were able to walk through and see the new buildings that were old, and the old buildings that were new, it'll make more sense when you get there! :) WWII definitely left it's mark on the area, but thankfully there was enough record of the structures that they were able to be rebuilt for us to enjoy, Saint Peter's Church being one of them.

Hop on the bus to the Nymphenburg Palace!
Matt met us with our bus at the end of our walking tour. As we went through the city we were being told stories and given the history on various buildings. We arrived at Nymphenburg Palace after a pretty short bus ride, what a location! This vast entryway leads to a very elegant palace which is decorated top to bottom. Nicole and I realized that we had actually known absolutely nothing about German royalty when we got there, reading up on it before you go may help tie it all together a little easier.
BMW Welt, BMW Museum …and the "butter" pretzel
We had the afternoon available after the palace, we hopped on the metro and were dropped off right at BMW Welt. Unfortunately we didn't think to plan to attend the BMW factory tour, which requires prior reservations, I would have loved to check that out, perhaps next time!
We did go see BMW Welt, which is has information on the brand and their current models; there are knick-knack stores and displays to check out. We signed up for the BMW Welt tour and had a few minutes to kill, which we decided to grab a pretzel from the food court inside. We consider ourselves to be American butter-enthusiasts, but a pretzel "with butter" has a WHOLE new meaning in Germany! I opted for this option and found out it wasn't just a brush on butter, or a little side of it, the entire inside of the pretzel is filled with butter! That was a bit too much for us! You've been warned!
The tour started up and was short lived, we can't quite recommend it. The tour was pretty slow-going and didn't seem to cover much that we found interesting, definitely save the 7 Euro per person! To save on time, we trotted over the bridge to the BMW Museum and went through there. The museum is a very cool place to check out for any automotive enthusiast!

Laundry in Munich!
After BMW, we headed back to the hotel via the metro and a short walk. Since it was Sunday, the local markets were closed so we decided the evening could be spent romantically at the laundry mat. The lady at the front counter was able to tell us how to get the local laundry mat, by this time in the trip, Nicole was pretty excited about that! We made the fifteen minute walk over the laundry mat and ran into Marvin and Kim from our group! We were able to score some detergent from a local we talked to…who, funny enough, was originally from South Carolina. After the laundry was done, we followed another recommendation from the hotel, Solo Pizza was just around the corner. Yes, getting Pizza in Germany right before we went to Italy seemed a little backwards, but we went anyway!
We had a similar ordering experience here like we did in Paris, except the beer was cheaper than a soda here, beer it is! We went through the menu and had a decent idea to get across what we wanted to order in German. We started out well and dropped off quickly, our server responded in English! We asked, in the middle of a small community in Munich if he spoke English, he responded "Of course we speak English, we're in Germany"….hmm, well yes of course, Pepperoni it is! We had a great dinner and would highly recommend the laundry and pizza adventure if you have down-time in Munich!
